NOVEC 1230 (FK 5-1-12) GASEOUS EXTINGUISHING SYSTEMS

Novec 1230 Systems are one of the commonly accepted “Clean Agent” systems. It is an environmentally sensitive fire extinguishing system. It does not harm the ozone. It has a global warming effect of 1 and can be safely used in environments with people. Novec 1230 Gas Extinguishing System performs physical extinguishing by absorbing heat.

When designing Novec 1230 Systems;

  • Design Standard
  • Dimensions of the Area
  • Hazard Type
  • Fire Type
  • Maximum and Minimum Temperature
  • Location relative to Sea Level
  • Ventilation Detail
  • Design Concentration
  • Pre-Calculation
  • Final Calculation
  • Net result

above basic items should be considered.

Main features of Novec 1230 System

  • Not Conductive
  • Colorless and Odorless
  • Not Corrosive
  • No Thermal Shock
  • Performs the Extinguishing Process Physically
  • No Waste After Discharge, No Cleaning Required
  • Safe to Use in Places with People
  • Simple Filling
  • Occupies Little Space
  • No Harm to Ozone
  • Global Warming Coefficient is 1
  • Relatively Low Storage Pressure
  • Discharge Time is 10 seconds
  • Simple and Onsite Installation

Novec 1230 Areas of use

  • Off-Shore Applications
  • Civil, Military and Marine Applications
  • Rail Systems and Public Transportation Vehicles

Where Not to Use Novec 1230 Systems

  • Nitrocellulose fires (Oxygen)
  • Sodium Chlorate or Sodium nitrate (Oxidizer)
  • Oxygenperoxides
  • Reactive metals such as sodium, potassium and magnesium
  • Radioactive metals such as uranium and plutonium

Novec 1230  systems cannot be used when the ABOVE are concerned.

Novec 1230 Systems show differences in terms of working pressures according to manufacturers. In Classic Systems, 25bar and 42bar options are produced in line with market demands with UL, FM and VdS approved system options.

In New Generation S-Flow Novec 1230 Systems, 25bar, 32bar, 34bar, 42bar, 50bar and 55bar and up to 67bar working pressure are produced and put into use with UL and FM certificates. In S-Flow Systems, it is produced and offered for use with VdS approval up to 25bar, 32bar, 34bar, 42bar 50bar and 55bar and 60bar working pressure. In the past, it was necessary to position the cylinders relatively close to the installation area in classical systems, but when you go above 25bar, it allows you to place the cylinders at a more distant point.

Before Novec 1230 Systems are applied, “Door-Fan Test”, “Puff Test” and “Pipe Leak Test” of the relevant protection areas must be applied.

System design is made in accordance with NFPA 2001 or EN 15004 standard. A healthy engineering study is carried out in the field and the hazard classification of the area to be protected is made.

For example, using 5.3% for Class A, 5.6% for Class A Higher and 5.9% for Class B, the application intensity, i.e. Flooding Factor, is determined according to the hazard class (Data are given in accordance with EN 15004 standard).  The required amount of extinguishing gas is calculated using the Flooding Factor.

Protection of multiple zones over a single system can be provided by using selector valves. For this, we recommend that the main system is selected with 100% redundancy.

The extinguisher is used together with the control panel and accessories. The detection wing of the extinguishing can be solved by using different detectors according to the requirements of the area to be protected.
