FM-200 (HFC – 227EA) SYSTEMS

FM-200 Systems are one of the most commonly accepted “Clean Agent” systems. It is an environmentally sensitive fire extinguishing system. FM – 200 Gaseous Extinguishing System absorbs heat and performs physical extinguishing. When designing FM-200 Systems, the following basic items are taken as basis;

  • Design Standard
  • Volume Dimensions
  • Hazard Type
  • Fire Type
  • Maximum and Minimum Temperature
  • Location relative to Sea Level
  • Ventilation Detail
  • Design Concentration
  • Pre-Calculation
  • Final Calculation
  • Net result

Main features of the FM-200 System

  • Not Conductive
  • Colorless and Odorless
  • Not Corrosive
  • Does Not Cause Thermal Shock
  • Performs the Extinguishing Process Physically
  • No Waste After Discharge, No Cleaning Required
  • Safe to Use in Places with People
  • Relative Affordability
  • Small Space Occupancy
  • No Harm to Ozone
  • Relatively Low Storage Pressure
  • Discharge Time is 10 seconds
  • Simple and Onsite Installation

Areas of use

  • Data Processing Rooms
  • UPS Rooms
  • Electricity Distribution Centers
  • Valuable Material Warehouses
  • Telecommunication Centers
  • Turbine Cabinets
  • Archives and Museums
  • Flammable and Combustible Material Warehouses
  • Off-Shore Applications
  • Civil, Military and Marine Applications

Where Not to Use FM-200 Systems?

  • Nitrocellulose fires (Oxygen)
  • Sodium Chlorate or Sodium nitrate (Oxidizer)
  • Oxygenperoxides
  • Reactive metals such as sodium, potassium and magnesium
  • Radioactive metals such as uranium and plutonium

FM-200 systems cannot be used when the ABOVE are concerned.

FM-200 Systems differ in terms of working pressures according to manufacturers. In Classic Systems, 25bar and 42bar options are produced in line with market demands with UL, FM and VdS approved system options. In the New Generation S-Flow FM-200 systems, UL and FM certified systems are produced and offered for use up to 32bar, 34bar, 50bar and 55bar working pressure. S-Flow Systems are manufactured and offered for use with VdS approval up to 32bar, 34bar, 50bar, 55bar and 60bar working pressure. Under normal conditions, it is necessary to position the cylinders relatively close to the area where the installation will be made, but when you go above 25bar, it allows you to place the cylinders at a more distant point.

Before FM-200 Systems are applied, “Door-Fan Test”, “Puff Test” and “Pipe Tightness Test” of the relevant protection areas must be applied.

System design is made in accordance with NFPA 2001 or EN 15004 standard. An accurate engineering study is carried out in the field and the hazard classification of the protected area is made.

For example, using 7.9% for Class A, 8.5% for Class A Higher and minimum 9% extinguishing concentrations for Class B and C, the application intensity, i.e. Flooding Factor, is determined according to the hazard class (Data is given in accordance with EN 15004 standard).  The required amount of extinguishing gas is calculated using the Flooding Factor.

Protection of multiple zones over a single system can be provided by using selector valves. For this, we recommend that the main system is selected with 100% redundancy.

The extinguisher is used together with the control panel and accessories. The detection wing of the extinguishing can be solved by using different detectors according to the requirements of the area to be protected.
