CLASS A FOAM CONCENTRATES

SOLBERG Class A Foam Concentrates are mixed with 0.1 – 1% water and specially formulated to make water more effective in fighting fires. The surfactants in Class A foam significantly reduce the surface tension of water and, when mixed with air, create a superior foam blanket that envelops fuels with a thick layer of water. This creates a barrier between the fuel and the fire, extinguishing the fire faster than water alone and allowing firefighters to see the application areas. Making the water more effective reduces the amount of water needed to extinguish the fire, reduces water damage and improves firefighter safety through faster removal and reduced cleanup/maintenance requirements.

It is used especially in fires of combustible solid materials, natural area fires such as forests, wood, paper and tire industries where solid material fires frequently occur. Benefits of Class A Foam:

  • Reflects radiant heat and is highly visible
  • Insulates fuels and excludes oxygen
  • Absorbs maximum energy due to large surface area
  • Attaches to vertical surfaces and acts as a water reservoir
  • Allows water to penetrate fuels due to low surface tension
  • Used in CAFS – Compressed Air Foam Systems
